Is there such a thing as “too much travel”?
I would say there is no such thing as too much travel (and yes, I realize it’s a Travel Advisor talking here).
There is something to be said about the pacing of travel that is very much individualized. Everyone has their own threshold of what is too much. And that may mean frequency or length of trips, it may be priority in budget, it may be seeing your pet(s), maybe you crave a specific food, or it may be as simple as wanting to sleep on your own pillow and bed. There is nothing wrong with any of those.
I personally enjoy visiting different places and revisiting others. There have been years I’ve traveled more and many I’ve traveled less in my lifetime. But the moral of the story is that it is important to know – and stick to - your own threshold. And that threshold changes based on things happening in your life. I have an annual wall calendar where I have all my travel noted – and I can see the entire year at a glance and know what’s coming or where I have gaps. Before I go booking something, I check the calendar.
As you start out the new year and think of the travels you want to take (think bucket list), remember to prioritize them and then overlay your threshold. It’ll help with your planning. And it will help keep your travels fun and interesting.
Happy Trails and Happy New Year!
