Lighten Your Luggage
Liquids don't have to weigh you down when you travel.
You’re about to pack for your trip and you realize the weight of your luggage is doing the teeter-totter on the scale when it comes to the limit. What to do?
Consider the liquids you have in your suitcase. Liquids add weight quickly – especially when you’re taking your 16 oz. bottles of your favorite shampoo, conditioner AND body wash. Invest in small travel size containers/bottles – it is a small investment for the ROI.
* Pay attention to the amount of the product you use at a time – it will help you gauge how much to put in these containers when you travel
* Decide what kind of cap you prefer – flip or screw cap. Yes, it really does make a difference because it is something you’re familiar with. And having some continuity in your routine when traveling is helpful to one’s psyche.
* Hard plastic or rubberized bottles? Know how you typically pack things as a rubberized liquid container really can be punctured inadvertently. Enough said there.
* Containers leak so put the liquids in a ziplock baggie. You don’t need that body product that has wonderful essential oils in it to leak on your suit, gown, blouse, shirt. Plus you have the baggie in case you need it for something else on the trip.
* Did you know there are travel atomizers so you don't have to carry that really heavy perfume bottle?
There are all sorts of inexpensive container options out there, so check them out at your local grocery or discount store. And a bonus is you wash them out and reuse them for your next trip.
If you’re striving to be a minimalist packer, check out the hotel website (or call if necessary) and ask what products are provided in the rooms. You may find you don’t need to take any of those liquids!
